Setting up your utilities can really suck the joy out of a new move, as the need for water, power, and internet get forgotten in the excitement. If you are lucky, the utilities in your new home might be under your landlord’s name. If not, you will need to visit a separate office for each utility, pay a deposit, then wait for your request to be hooked up.
Most utilities are government run and have offices across town, but tend to be crowded, chaotic, bureaucratic, and prone to ignoring requests, especially from foreigners who are not able to express their needs in Turkish.
